Miscues cost Team Georgia against Missouri

One bad inning.

A trio of errors in the bottom of the third inning Saturday evening helped Missouri push five runs across the plate and Team Georgia never recovered, dropping a 5-3 decision at McAlester High School's Mike Deak Field. Team Georgia fell to 2-2 in the Junior Sunbelt Classic standings.

They will face Team Colorado in their only game on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. (CST) at Mike Deak Field.

Team Missouri, meanwhile, joins Arizona as the only two unbeaten teams remaining in the 10-team field.

Team Georgia took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Jimbo Brown (Bremen) reached on an error, then advanced to third base on a single from Britt Metts (Jeff Davis) to put runners at the corners. Brown scored on a sacrifice fly by Reid Robertson (Pope).

After Missouri took a 5-1 lead in its half of the third, Team Georgia spent the rest of the game trying to play catch-up. Relief pitchers Garrett Gainous (Cairo) and Pierce Williams (Alexander) kept Missouri from scoring, but the offense managed little off Missouri starter Parker Wright. Team Georgia trimmed the deficit in the top of the sixth.

Liam Sullivan (Marist) drew a two-out walk and Patrick Holloman (Ola) reached on an error to put runners at first and second. They moved up a base on a wild pitch before Mikal Mascarello (Statesboro) lined a two-run single.

But Wright, who went the distance to earn the complete-game victory, promptly recorded the third out. Wright wasn't overpowering. He struck out five and walked three, but he relied heavily on his defense.

Ty Floyd (Rockmart), Mascarello, Metts and Brown combined for all of Team Georgia's hits in the game.
